Cost Engineering
Cost Engineering
If you find yourself in a position where the plans and specifications that you have paid for exceed your budget, it is probably because no-one was involved who understood real costs at an early stage.
Cost Engineering is used to prove that solutions do exist, or that the concept is flawed and needs revisiting. Salvaging a job is preferential, but it is not always possible.
The process involves looking at the current solutions and prices and evaluating them for substitution and alternatives that are more affordable. You should be aware that the changing of one item often leads onto many other changes that also effects the end price, so this service is a complicated one to provide. Frequently there is more than one option per problem as well and each one should be explored. A report is provided at the end
If the solutions look viable, then a Budget Led Design process can be entered into with the Architect and the Design Team (See Budget Led Design on our Products Page). This means that the rework undertaken has a high probability of succeeding.
PRICE: Cost engineering is typically undertaken in an attempt to salvage prior design work. We are dependent on seeing what has transpired prior you needing this service before we can offer an idea of price. If we have already quantity surveyed we will likely be able to offer this relatively cheaply.
As a guide however, the quantity surveyor part of the cost engineering to get a design to fit a budget will typically cost between $2000 - $6000.
Be aware that other costs may be incurred if the design team(engineers, architects, builders etc) are also needed to explore options. These costs are usually understood at the beginning.
